The Crown is a famous television series (for Netflix) by Peter Morgan which portrays Queen Elizabeth II’s reign. The series is taken from the drama film and a stage play by Morgan named The Queen (2006) and The Audience (2013), respectively.The very first season of the Crown shows the period of Elizabeth and Philip’s marriage (Philip was the Duke of Edinburgh, 1947). This season also shows the engagement of Philip’s sister (in 1955), Princess Margaret, and Peter Townsend (the Group Captain).The second season takes us to the time of the Suez Crisis (1956), the retirement of the PM, Harold Macmillan (1963), and Prince Edward’s birth (1964).The third season portrayed two periods of Harold Wilson when he was the prime minister and also shows the period of Camilla Shand. This season seems to be spanning over 1964-1977.The fourth season takes us to the period of 1979- the early 1990s, which includes the marriage of Prince Charles and Lady Diana Spencer as well as the tenure of Margaret Thatcher as the Prime Minister.The fifth and sixth seasons encompass the reign of the Queen in the 21st century, and the series slowly moves towards its closure.New actors in the series have put up roles for reflecting the aging process of the characters over the periods shown.The character of Queen is portrayed by Claire Foy in the first and second seasons, while Matt Smith portrays the role of Prince Philip, and Vanessa Kirby plays Princess Margaret.On the other hand, the Queen’s character in the third and fourth seasons is played by Olivia Colman, Tobias Menzies portrays Prince Philip and Princess Margaret by Helena Bonham Carter.Apart from these, Lady Diana is played by Emma Corrin in season 4, Josh O’Connor portrays Prince Charles in season 3, and Gillian Anderson plays Margaret Thatcher.In the fifth season, we again find the alteration of the cast, such as Queen is played by Imelda Staunton, Princess Margaret by Lesley Manville, and Prince Philip by Jonathan Pryce. At the same time, Elizabeth Debicki and Dominic West take up the characters of Princess Diana and Prince Charles.
